8 Bible Verses About Strength for When You Feel Weak
There are days — sometimes entire seasons — when you simply feel like you have nothing left. The energy is gone. The motivation has dried up. The weight of life has become too heavy and you are not sure how much longer you can carry it. In those moments, the Word of God speaks directly to your weakness with a promise of strength that is not your own.
1. Isaiah 40:29-31 — Strength for the Weary
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
This may be the most beloved passage about strength in all of Scripture. The promise is not that you will never feel tired — it is that God will renew your strength when you do.
2. Philippians 4:13 — Strength Through Christ
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Paul wrote these words from prison. Not from a place of comfort — from a place of chains. The strength he described was not his own. It was borrowed from the One who never runs out.
3. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 — Strength in Weakness
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This verse flips the script entirely. Your weakness is not an obstacle to God’s power — it is the very condition in which His power is most perfectly displayed.
4. Psalm 28:7 — The Lord as Strength
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.” Strength and praise go together in this verse. When we acknowledge where our strength comes from, gratitude follows naturally.
5. Ephesians 6:10 — Strength in His Might
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.” Be strong — not in your own determination, not in positive thinking, but in the Lord and in His power. The source matters.
6. Nehemiah 8:10 — Joy as Strength
“Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” This is one of Scripture’s most surprising equations. Joy — not effort, not willpower, but joy — is a form of spiritual strength.
7. Psalm 46:1 — Strength in Trouble
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Ever-present. Not sometimes present. Not present when you have it together. Ever-present — especially in trouble.
8. Joshua 1:9 — Commanded to Be Strong
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
A Prayer for Strength
“Lord, I am weak today and I need Your strength. I cannot do this in my own power anymore. Fill me with the strength that only You can give. Remind me that my weakness is not a problem for You — it is an invitation for Your power to show up. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Save these verses and return to them whenever you feel like you cannot take another step. And share them with someone today who looks like they are running on empty.
