When God Says Wait: Finding Peace in the Waiting Season
Waiting is one of the hardest assignments God ever gives. Harder than working. Harder, sometimes, than suffering. Because when you are working or even suffering, you feel like something is happening. In the waiting, it can feel like nothing is happening at all — and that silence can be deafening.
Waiting Is Not Wasting
The greatest mistake we make in seasons of waiting is believing that nothing is happening. But God is always working, even in stillness. Isaiah 64:4 reminds us: “Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” He acts on behalf of those who wait. The waiting is not passive — it is positioning.
What God Does in the Wait
Consider what happened to Joseph in the years between his dream and its fulfillment. Moses spent forty years in the desert before he led a nation. David was anointed king and then returned to the sheep. In every case, the waiting season was the preparation season — God building in them what they would need for the moment He was preparing for them.
How to Wait Well
Psalm 27:14 gives a two-part instruction: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Wait actively, not passively. Stay in His Word. Stay in community. Stay faithful in small things. The waiting season is not a pause on your life — it is part of your life, and it deserves your full presence.
The Promise on the Other Side of Waiting
Isaiah 40:31 — “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” The waiting is not permanent. The breakthrough is coming. And you will be stronger for having waited.
A Prayer for the Waiting Season
“Lord, waiting is hard. I want to see movement, to feel progress, to know something is happening. Help me to trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. Give me peace in this season and help me to use it well. I believe my breakthrough is coming in Your perfect time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If you are in a waiting season right now, you are in good company — and you are in good hands. Share this with someone who needs patience and peace today.
